Project Background and Scope

MBM has been engaged to provide Quantity Surveying services for the development of the new Broken Hill Police Station, a purpose-built facility to support policing operations in far western NSW.

The new station is being delivered by BGIS on behalf of NSW Police, and is located on a site of approximately 2,800m², allowing for the construction of a modern, multipurpose Regional Police Station.

The project aims to:

  • Deliver a cost-effective facility that aligns with current NSW Police operational and customer service requirements
  • Meet the current and future accommodation needs of Broken Hill Police

Provide a station with secure, compliant spaces for police personnel, equipment, exhibits, and public interface

Project Challenges

As with many regional infrastructure projects, Broken Hill presents several key challenges:

  • Remote Location: Construction and supply logistics in a remote area with limited access to specialised trades and materials
  • Security Requirements: High-level security needs across all areas, from custody to evidence storage, must be embedded in the design and construction
  • Cost Control: Delivering a facility that balances modern functionality with budget constraints and long-term operational needs

MBM Solutions

Drawing from extensive experience on regional justice and police projects, MBM delivered practical and cost-effective solutions:

  • Detailed Cost Advice: Provided robust cost estimates at all key design stages to support confident decision-making
  • Benchmarking: Leveraged cost data from similar regional police projects to guide budgets and validate pricing
  • Security-Integrated Cost Planning: Worked with the design team to ensure secure areas were fully scoped and costed to meet compliance requirements
  • Value for Money: Focused on balancing durability, operational efficiency, and cost to deliver a facility that will meet community and police needs for years to come
